The Northern Virginia engineering firm Kline Engineering & Consulting, LLC will receive the “Excellence in Concrete” award from the Maryland Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
The firm won top honors in the Mid Rise Buildings category (4-15 stories) for its design and construction of The Arundel, a 15-story apartment complex in Hanover, Md.
“Everyone on our team is so pleased to be recognized by ACI for our work on The Arundel,” said Don Kline, P.E., principal at Kline Engineering. “This was one of the biggest projects that our company has completed and required a number of innovative solutions to several construction challenges. We’re very proud of the result and truly delighted that The Arundel earned first place in its award category.”
Kline Engineering’s expertise in the specialty field of post-tensioned concrete is evident throughout The Arundel, which is the tallest building in Anne Arundel County. The Arundel’s framing consists of post-tensioned flat plate construction with reinforced concrete core walls. In addition, post-tensioning materials were used throughout The Arundel, from the transfer mat that spans over two large storm water vaults under the building to the bridge connecting the residential building to the garage.
